Visas and Embassies

Visa Policy

Following Visa Policy is valid now but may quickly change any time. Contact the nearest Czech Embassy or Consulate for the latest information. For more detailed info please go directly on the web site of our Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Visa Not Required

Citizens of the USA and other more than 50 countries do not need visa to visit the Czech Republic for a limited period of time. This period differs country to country.

Up to 30 days without visa
Citizens of Bulgaria, Cyprus, Romania and Singapore are allowed to stay up to 30 days without visa.

Up to 90 days without visa
Citizens of Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Costa Rica, Chile, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France (included Martinique, New Caledonia, Reunion, Quadeloupe, French Guyana and for periods of up to 30 days Wallis, Futuna, French Polynesia), Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands (included Curacao), New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United States of America, Uruguay and Vatican are allowed to stay up to 90 days without visa.

Up to 180 days without visa
Citizens of United Kingdom are allowed to stay up to 180 days without visa.

Visa Required

Other foreign visitors are required to have visa. No visa can be obtained at the border or at the airports. The maximum length of any individual stay in the Czech Republic based on a visa is 90 days. The visa may be used at any time within 6 months from the date of issue. For more information contact the nearest Czech Embassy or Consulate.

Bearer of Czech tourist visa must register at any Czech Immigration Police Station within 3 days after arrival in the Czech Republic. Visitors staying in hotels are registered automatically. The Main Immigration Police Office is located at Olsanska 2, Praha 3.

Single Entry Visa Fees
A single entry visa for a period of stay not exceeding 90 days usually costs 21 USD. Special rates are applied for citizens of some countries. Consult the nearest Czech Embassy or Consulate.

Multiple Entry Visa Fees
A multiple entry visa for a period of stay not exceeding 90 days usually costs 80 USD. Special rates are applied for citizens of some countries. Consult the nearest Czech Embassy or Consulate.

Transit Visa
This type of visa is used for transit through the territory of the Czech Republic. The transit visa is valid up to 90 days and the requirements are basically the same as for a visa for period up to 90 days. In addition, the applicant must have in his/her passport a valid visa to enter the country of final destination and/or all other transit countries. The time-limit for one transit is 5 days.

Single Entry Transit Visa
Single entry transit visa allows one to enter once and travel through the Czech Republic. The maximum length of the stay is 5 days. The price is usually 21 USD. Special rates might be applied for citizens of some countries. Consult the nearest Czech Embassy or Consulate.

Double Entry Transit Visa
Double entry transit visa allows double transits through the Czech Republic. The maximum length of each stay is 5 days. The visa fee is usually 32 USD. Special rates are applied for citizens of some countries. Consult the nearest Czech Embassy or Consulate.

Multiple Entry Transit Visa
Multiple entry transit visa allows multiple transits through the Czech Republic. The maximum length of each stay is 5 days. The visa fee is 80 USD. Special rates are applied for citizens of some countries. Consult the nearest Czech Embassy or Consulate.

The Customs Policy

You are allowed to export from the Czech Republic without any permission articles of noncommercial nature, i.e., articles that are, as to their kind and quantity, imported exclusively to meet the personal needs of these persons and members of their families or which are to be given as presents. The value of the exported articles is not limited.

If the exported articles are subject to legal regulations, such as veterinary regulations, regulations concerning protection of cultural values, museum and gallery pieces, health and environmental protection, security, etc., the customs officers will require export permission pursuant to these regulations.

Be careful when you buy antique or museum quality art. You will probably have a trouble with the customs on the way out. In general, everything made before 1920 may be non-exportable.

Import of gifts is permitted without duty and VAT if the quantity and value do not exceed 6000 Kc ($180).

When importing tobacco products and alcoholic beverages, duty free import is limited to 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco or reasonable combination of the above. When importing alcoholic beverages, duty free import is limited to 1 liter of liquor or 2 liters of wine. When importing perfume, duty free import is limited to 50 grams of perfume or 0.25 liters of eau de toilette.
